Our Redeemer Lives
Hope is Found in Christ’s Resurrection
Dear Friend,
Long before the hope of resurrection was fully known, Job proclaimed it into the dark. Stripped of everything, faced with the crushing sorrow of loss, he dared to say: I know that my Redeemer lives. This same unexpected certainty quietly fills the rooms of Belóved Gallery—not through argument or explanation, but through paintings, poetry, and the stories of guests who walk the exhibition floor.
Anne Evans toured Belóved Gallery on the one-year anniversary of her son Stewart’s fatal accident. Carrying overwhelming grief, she had no words, and then, standing in front of Akiane’s portrait of Jesus, Prince of Peace, words suddenly came to her: Anne, I believe in you. The face in the painting did not erase her grief. It held it. “When I looked into the left eye, I felt all the compassion and the mercy that God feels for people, how much He loves mankind, and that He’s sorry for our pain. In the right eye, there is much hope and promise. When you have a great loss, you want hope restored.”
Another guest, Beami Strong, grew up carrying the weight of trauma and a question he couldn’t shake loose: Is God even real? Jesus felt distant and too otherworldly to understand the specific shape of a person’s suffering. But as Beami walked through Belóved Gallery, what he saw in Akiane’s art stopped him. Not a symbol, not an icon, but a face. “I suddenly felt like I could relate to things Jesus experienced while on earth,” Beami shared. “That changed everything.” The distance had closed—not because God had moved, but because Beami had been given a way to connect that touched his heart.
This I Know. That I Shall See God.
Job 19:25-27
This is what art, at its most honest, does. Art makes the invisible visible. It restores hope. It connects us to God. It allows us to see.
Akiane was a child when she first painted Prince of Peace. She saw “the face of love” and painted it with a certainty that has never faded.
Job’s words echo the same conviction—that even in the lowest register of human suffering, even after death, there is a seeing yet to come. A face to behold. A Redeemer standing at last on the earth. On Resurrection Sunday, we remember that God came in human form, so we could stand face to face with Him. He died for us so we can know we aren’t alone in our suffering. And He rose again, so we can have eternal life. We have hope because we know our Redeemer lives.
